Whenever I craved Chinese takeout on keto, beef and broccoli stir-fry was my savior. Instead of sugary sauces and starchy thickeners, I created this low-carb version with coconut aminos and a keto-friendly thickener. It became a weekly dinner in my house, full of flavor yet guilt-free.
π§Ύ Ingredients (4 servings)
- 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
- 4 cups broccoli florets
- 3 tbsp avocado or olive oil
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 1/4 cup coconut aminos (or soy sauce)
- 2 tbsp beef broth
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp xanthan gum (optional)
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds (garnish)
- 2 green onions, sliced (garnish)
π¨π³ Instructions — Step by Step
- Prep beef: Slice beef thinly against the grain for tenderness. Pat dry with paper towels to avoid steaming.
- Blanch broccoli: Bring water to boil, cook broccoli for 1 min, then shock in ice water. Drain well.
- Cook beef: Heat 2 tbsp oil in skillet/wok. Stir-fry beef in batches until browned. Remove and set aside.
- Aromatics: Add remaining oil, garlic, and ginger to the pan. Stir until fragrant (~30 seconds).
- Combine: Return broccoli and beef to the pan. Add coconut aminos, broth, sesame oil, vinegar, and pepper. Stir well.
- Sauce: If too thin, sprinkle xanthan gum slowly while stirring until thickened.
- Serve: Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions. Enjoy hot!
- Cut beef thin: Freezing for 20 mins helps slice thinly.
- Hot pan: A wok or cast iron skillet works best for searing.
- No soggy broccoli: Blanch quickly and keep it crisp.
- Meal prep: Makes 4 servings. Stores well for 3 days in fridge.

π₯ Why this recipe works for keto
This stir-fry keeps carbs low by using coconut aminos instead of sugary sauces and skips cornstarch thickeners. Broccoli adds fiber and vitamins, while beef provides protein and healthy fats — making it satisfying and keto-approved.
π Variations & Add-ins
- Spicy kick: Add chili garlic sauce or sriracha.
- Mushroom lover: Toss in shiitake or button mushrooms.
- Nutty twist: Sprinkle roasted peanuts or cashews (if fits your macros).
- Dairy boost: Top with parmesan for fusion flavor.
π§ Storage Tips
Refrigerate in airtight containers for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in a skillet. Avoid microwaving too long, which can overcook the beef.
This beef and broccoli stir-fry is one of my go-to keto dinners. It satisfies cravings for takeout while keeping macros on track — fast, flavorful, and family-approved.
